Résumé/Abstract:
Radiofrequency identification is an emerging and promising technology for the identification of individuals and goods: the automation of manual operation, rapidity, precise information…

Different RFID technologies exist. In this presentation, the passive UHF RFID technology and especially the principles, design, characterization and fabrication of RFID antennas are introduced. Over 2 billion of RFID tags are sold per year. To lower their cost, their fabrication using ink jet printing is presented. This technique could revolutionize the electronic industry. This work is issued from electromagnetic simulations and measurement considering several kinds of RFID antennas.

The design of active RFID system is also introduced. These systems compared to passive RFID systems allow achieving higher reading range with lower radiated power. However the tag cost is higher.

Bio: Anthony Ghiotto received the M.Sc. degree in 2005 and the Ph.D. degree in 2008 all in electrical engineering from the Grenoble Institute of Technology, Grenoble, France. He has been a Post-Doctoral fellow from 2009 to 2011 and a Research Associates from 2011 to 2012 at the Poly-Grames Research Center from the École Polytechnique de Montréal, Montréal, QC, Canada.

Since September 2012, Dr. Ghiotto holds an Assistant Professor position at the ENSEIRB-MATMECA engineering school from the Bordeaux Institute of Technlogy and the Laboratory of Integration from Materials to Systems (IMS) from the University of Bordeaux in Talence, France. His current research interests include the analysis, design and integration of passive and active components for microwave and millimeter-wave systems.

Dr. Ghiotto is a technical reviewer for the IEEE MICROWAVE AND WIRELESS COMPONENTS LETTERS and the IEEE ANTENNAS AND WIRELESS PROPAGATION LETTERS. He was the recipient of the Young Scientist Award of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) in 2008 and of the 2009 Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Merit Scholarship Program for Foreign Students of the Fonds Québécois de la Recherche sur la Nature et les Technologies (FQRNT) of Québec.
