Abstract:
The automatic speech recognition is one of the major branches of speech processing.

The current ASR systems based on spectral properties statistical modeling still have limitations when applying to male, female and child speech.

For about 40 years, the central hypothesis of automatic speech processing theories is vowels and consonants are parts of the speech and vowels are always ‘reached targets’ during the vowel production. However, a new hypothesis of ‘vocalic gesture’ for a vowel-to-vowel transition which doesn't concern the vowel targets was proposed by Pr. René Carré at the DDL-CNRS lab in Lyon, France.

In this thesis, the new hypothesis will be represented. Some experiments had been carried out to test the hypothesis of Pr. René Carré and a new gesture has been proposed for using in ASR task.
