Résumé/abstract:
Despite multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology is maturing and is adopted into emerging wireless standards, cellular systems are still not enjoying the high capacity promised by this technology. One reason is that current networks consider only small-scale antenna configurations. Massive MIMO is a new breakthrough communication technique that promises the full potential of MIMO realized through deploying hundreds of antennas at each base station and using multi-user MIMO transmission to simultaneously serve tens of users. Selected as a candidate technology for the fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks, massive MIMO communication is becoming a significant area of research. This talk gives a short introduction to massive MIMO concept and key features. Then, it presents some research results on the impacts of practical effects such as spatial correlation and channel aging on the sum-rate performance of massive MIMO communications.
